Winter TLC for Your Streptocarpus: Essential January/February Care Tips

At this time of year, your streptocarpus plants might be looking a little sad, so it's a great time to give them a little TLC. This is what I've done with this Streptocarpus Betty – see the before and after images above.

Grab a sharp pair of scissors and snip away any dead or yellow leaves and spent flower stalks. Trim off brown tips and remove old flower spikes near the base to prevent congestion and diseases like botrytis. Make sure your plants receive bright light – they can handle direct sunlight during the winter.

Avoid overwatering, as cool and damp conditions encourage mould; treat pests like mealybugs/aphids immediately. SB Plant Invigorator works well to keep your plants looking healthy.

Only feed your plants if they are currently flowering and actively growing (use a weak feed / half a food tablet); if not, hold off until they begin growing again in March or April.
