Our breeding programme - and Polka Dots

Did you know that one of the parents of Streptocarpus 'Polka-Dot Purple' is 'Celebration'? You can see how the pattern on the flowers of 'Celebration' (check out the image below) is closely related to the stunning pattern found on the Polka-Dot varieties. 'Polka-Dot Pink' was an exciting natural mutation of the purple variety that we discovered in our greenhouse.

How do I know this? Well, we have this notebook that our dad started and which catalogues all the breeding work we've done since the 1980s.

This means we can look at the family tree of every variety of Streptocarpus and begonia we've introduced over the last forty years. For example, on this page, you can see that 'Falling Stars' and 'Elsi' were crossed to produce 'Kim'.
